Anchorage Golf Course, located in Anchorage, Alaska is a very scenic 18-hole public golf course built on hilly terrain. The course is located on the lower hillside of South Anchorage. The course frames the magnificent views of the Chugach Mountain Range, the Anchorage city skyline, Cook Inlet and Denali (or Mt. McKinley) AKA "The Great One". McKinley is the highest point in North America rising to 20,320 feet.
The course first opened for play in 1987. The course was designed by Bill Newcomb.
The fairways are tree lined, and the small greens are fast. Water hazards come into play on five holes. If your shot accuracy is off, you can easily get in scoring trouble.
The Golf Season at AGC runs mid-May to mid-October.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6616 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 4848 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 14, a par-5 that plays to 590 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 8, a par-3 that plays to 151 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 4, a 434 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 13, a 225 yard par-3.

I'm a little early for prime time golfing as they just removed the tarps from the the greens last week.......but Hey.....we're golfing in Alaska!!!! Played Moose Run (Creek Course) last week and it was fully open for walking only, but here we now have carts. I only have time for nine (9) holes today so I'm playing the Front 9 Blacks at 3,180yds (Back 3,421yds) on this slightly rolling but narrow Par 36/36 layout. The fairway grass is full and cut very nicely with a thick grassy rough ready to hide your ball if you stray. The greens are a little shaggy and rolling at 2-3 but three (3) weeks ago they had snow on most of them, The Front 9 has every hole framed by a mix of pine/hardwood trees that keeps good hole seperation. With six (6) tee selections you can pick from Black 6,601 / 71.4 / 129 down to Red at 4,773 / 68.0 / 117 on this Par 36/36 layout. The #1 is a nice straightaway 347yd Par 4 to a elevated green protected by a RH front trap. The #2 Par 4 dogleg right at 348yds has your fairway ending about 120yds from the green, so watch that tee distance. The #4 is a tough Hcp 2 dogleg left 460yd Par 4 with a 210yd corner shot to the elevated green. The #6 is a 484yd Par 5 Hcp 4 with LH water/sand traps the last 180yds in with a well protected elevated green. The #7 at 388yds is a narrow Par 4 with a meandering fairway that challenges your visual landing areas. Finishing up with a uphill/dogleg right 493yd Par 5 will leave you remembering the views seen here today and the challenges. Ended up shooting 42 w/18putts and walked away with lots of memories of golfing in Alaska. My course ranking "Don't Reflect" prime time conditions of which would be ALOT better.
